Hi everyone! My name is Jackie Hyland and I’m very excited to connect with you all and hear your questions during this week’s AMA.
A little bit about me, I grew up in Houston, Texas, and I spent a large part of my 20s living in a variety of cities around the world: Panama City, Panama, Mexico City Mexico, Washington DC, and San Francisco and now Los Angeles, CA!
I’ve been a seed-stage investor at a fund, angel investor, operator, and mentor to startups in Latin America and the U.S. I got into investing thanks to my Fulbright in Mexico where I was part of the first angel investment network there, Angel Ventures Mexico. That then propelled me into private equity, impact investing at Accion Venture Lab, banking with Silicon Valley Bank, and then, after on one side of the table for so long, I decided I wanted to get my hands dirty jumped into two operator roles. I learned so much and now venturing on my own to start my own project.
Having been on both sides of the table I know about early-stage fundraising, Venture debt, financing options for your company that are not venture capital with their pitfalls and things to think about. If you’re thinking about working in Latin America, hiring in Latin America, or just curious, I can share most things about the ecosystem. I also can talk about most anything fintech, climate tech, real estate tech, as these are areas I’ve done deep dives in most recently.
When I’m not figuring out what entrepreneurial endeavor is next for me, I’m consulting with some amazing companies and funds, trying to keep up my Portuguese, and making silly videos with my fiancé.
También, puedo contestar las preguntas en español si es tu idioma preferido!
