The demand for music artists to perform far outweighs their availability. The global pandemic has further exacerbated this challenge by limiting touring and real-world events.Â
CEEK offers a solution: easy access to digital content on a variety of platforms, including virtual worlds on leading VR headsets and CEEK’s proprietary patented mobile VR headset. This content includes virtual shows and music performances, online classes and workshops, conferences and concerts, sporting events, and practically anything else that typically commands a live audience.
Beyond the content, it’s an entire ecosystem of products designed to add value for artists and their fans — with the latest technologies bringing it all together.Â
About CEEK
CEEK is a streaming platform for virtual events and experiences that empowers music artists, sports teams, and other content creators to directly generate revenue from their fans. The CEEK platform works on a variety of devices, including virtual reality headsets, mobile, tablets, and more.Â
Artists, performers, educators, and others can use CEEK to directly connect with their audience and provide experiences that were previously not possible. This can create an additional revenue stream for artists and performers of all types, helping them expand their audience while providing several new ways to monetize their fanbase — such as tokenized virtual tickets, novel digital world experiences, digital collectibles, membership passes, and other virtual goods.Â
The platform has already hosted hundreds of virtual experiences and concerts, including a virtual reality comedy festival (CEEK VR presents: The Laugh Experience), meditative wellness and chill spaces (CEEK Wellness), and live music concerts and shows from the likes of Demi Lovato, Bon Jovi, and Ziggy Marley. CEEK’s release of the Ziggy Marley & Bob Marley celebration received 9.4 million views in 24 hours, making it the number one livestream.Â
CEEK tracks content usage on the blockchain and ensures prompt content creator payments via smart contracts. It removes the complexity of paying artists around the globe—a practice that is otherwise susceptible to currency fluctuations and delays. CEEK puts the power in the hands of content creators by allowing them to directly create revenue from their fanbase, no matter where they’re located.
By leveraging the capabilities of blockchain technology, CEEK looks to make royalty distribution more efficient and transparent, while also enabling an array of new ways to provide value to fans and consumers. In line with this, CEEK tokens enable real-time artist payments verified on the blockchain, ensuring fast, efficient, and seamless monetization for music artists and content creators.
Team, advisors, and notable partners
Since it was founded in 2015, CEEK has conducted several funding rounds and has raised at least $7.2 million in venture funding. Some of its most significant investors include Black Star Fund, multiple top celebrities and athletes, and Major Kevin Johnson’s Black Capital Fund. CEEK has also received development funds from Facebook Technologies (Facebook Oculus) and substantial cloud credits from Microsoft and Amazon.Â
The platform was founded by seasoned innovator Mary Spio, a board member of Oculus for Good and Amazon Launchpad. Spio is widely regarded as a pioneer in digital cinema. She has created technology used by the likes of Lucas Films, Boeing, Microsoft XBOX, and Apple. Spio holds over 10 technology patents in 360 audio, virtual reality, and satellite communications.
CEEK is partnered with Universal Music, T-Mobile, and Apple. Â
The CEEK team and advisors have a proven track record working with major tech and entertainment firms, a selection of which include Facebook, Microsoft, Boeing, The Walt Disney Company, Dreamworks SKG, 20th Century Fox, and Zynga.Â
What problem does CEEK solve?
CEEK addresses some of the key challenges facing artists and performers today. Most prominent of these are the limitations they face when it comes to live performances, such as limited capacities, venue issues, and local restrictions.Â
CEEK resolves these physical issues by building a metaverse where artists can host virtual performances and events, which can be attended by any number of individuals with virtual tickets.Â
By leveraging blockchain technology, CEEK also brings a whole new level of efficiency and transparency to media assets, streams, and digital assets. Artists, advertisers, publishers, and more can be certain that the traffic and viewership numbers they receive are genuine and provable. They also benefit from faster, more efficient payments delivered via smart contracts.Â
Through CEEK, artists and other content creators will be able to use a proprietary tool known as the Celebrity Coin Mint to easily create their own custom tokens that are tradeable throughout the blockchain ecosystem. These tokens can be used for a variety of purposes, such as loyalty points, concert tickets, fan tokens, in-game items, rare skins, and more. Â
They'll also be able to leverage interactive shopping overlays as part of their virtual performances to promote products, boost engagement, and provide additional value to viewers—all while unlocking myriad new revenue options that were simply not possible before CEEK.
CEEK supports VR headsets across multiple channels, including mobile, PC, console, and web—including low-budget devices. This ensures the CEEK ecosystem is accessible to everybody, regardless of their preferred platform. It is also pursuing the latest in graphics and audio processing technologies to ensure a consistent experience on any device.
How does CEEK work?
CEEK tokenizes virtual tickets, which give music artists and content creators access to untapped and potentially unlimited revenue streams powered directly by their fans.Â
Virtual tickets and merchandise have their own unique Ethereum addresses that enable real-time secure and transparent tracking of revenue streams and royalty disbursements — providing creators with a reliable way to track their earnings. Â
It also offers fans the ability to hold and transfer value. Artists can sign digital items with special cryptographic tokens that are authenticated on the blockchain and cannot be duplicated. This not only provides a new way for artists to engage their fans, but also produces an entire economy around both digital and physical collectibles offered through the CEEK platform.Â
These primary features are complemented by CEEK’s custom-built NFT marketplace, which can be used for trading blockchain-based assets in a secure, trustless manner. The platform is being built on the highly efficient Devv.io blockchain to allow users to transact their NFTs with negligible transaction fees. Through the CEEK NFT marketplace, artists and users will be able to sell digital collectibles, merchandise, fan experiences, and more — without risks.Â
The platform allows content creators to earn the platform’s native utility token, known as CEEK, by creating virtual worlds and digital assets and making them available through the CEEK ecosystem. CEEK also enables the creation of venue NFTs, which represent fractional ownership of in-world assets and earn rewards for helping maintain those venues.Â
Through CEEK, artists can host virtual events in a variety of locations created either by the CEEK team or third-party contributors. CEEK has already produced a variety of VR environments that can be used for hosting virtual experiences, which are all contained within a virtual city dubbed CEEK City.Â
The platform also features an interactive voting solution, which allows CEEK token holders to vote alongside judges during competitions and award shows or choose which song their favorite artist will play next. Everything is processed on-chain for full transparency, giving users a better way to interact with their favorite artists and events.Â
Initially based on the Ethereum blockchain, CEEK announced plans to transition to Binance Smart Chain in May 2021. This is aimed at improving the efficiency of the overall system, cutting fees down while ensuring regular payouts for artists.
To participate in the CEEK ecosystem and begin accessing virtual worlds, users can either download the CEEK mobile app (available for iOS and Android devices) or the Oculus Go app.Â
CEEK leverages several advanced technologies to provide such a diverse feature set. These include a range of consumer-grade virtual reality headsets (available at various retail outlets), OpenXR (a popular API for accessing virtual reality platforms), as well as several blockchain platforms, including Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, and Devvio.Â
The CEEK token
In order to best engage with the CEEK ecosystem, end users need to get their hands on CEEK SMART VR TOKENs (CEEK) — a type of ERC-20/BEP-20 asset found on several centralized and decentralized exchange platforms.Â
These are used for a variety of purposes within the CEEK product landscape, such as purchasing tickets for virtual events, buying digital goods, and securing VIP interactions with their favorite artists, among other things.Â
CEEK can also be used to vote in various community-governed events, such as competitions and community polls — giving holders a say over which content is produced, where events are held, and more. Unlike current games, where value is lost when an in-game asset is purchased, CEEK digital assets can be used across virtual worlds and even transferred — producing a whole micro-economy of virtual items.Â
The token also serves as the primary reward mechanism for users, who can earn CEEK tokens for completing a variety of tasks, such as creating quality content, creating custom VR venues using CEEK's VR authoring tools, and participating in community votes.Â
The CEEK token is available as either an ERC-20 (Ethereum-based) or BEP-20 (Binance Smart Chain-based) asset. As of June 2021, CEEK is still developing its ERC-20 to BEP-20 bridge and eventually plans to phase out the ERC-20 version of the token.Â
Unique features
The goal of disrupting the digital entertainment industry by mixing blockchain technology, virtual reality, and smart contracts is no simple task. But CEEK has more than a few aces up its sleeve that make it uniquely positioned to carry out its ambitious mission.
For one, CEEK is already working with major labels and artists. CEEK has a lineup of superstars like Bon Jovi, Lady Gaga, Sting, and more.
By also focusing on global superstars without label representations who have amassed millions of fans and want to monetize their fanbase, CEEK directly appeals to some of the world’s most sought-after talents. The company has already made great strides globally, particularly in the UK, Africa, Caribbean, and Latin America, which have underserved creative communities with massive opportunities for monetization.
CEEK has integrated multiple currencies, in addition to mobile payment options like MPESA, MTN, and others — which make their platform ultra-accessible anywhere in the world.
CEEK has already set up distribution pipelines for its mobile virtual reality headset, while anybody who already has a headset is able to access the virtual world of CEEK by downloading its app.
CEEK’s focus on the global marketplace helps to empower potentially tens of thousands of artists. Collectively, they have billions in streaming capacity but cannot effectively monetize on traditional advertising-based platforms due to a lack of ads in their local markets. CEEK helps these artists directly monetize their audience, regardless of where they are located, by nixing the middlemen and bureaucracy involved in traditional promotional deals.
A look ahead
While the core of CEEK’s business today is music, sports, and entertainment, there’s a growing demand for its technology in the corporate events, training and educational sectors.
CEEK is already beginning to develop several use cases for the platform along these lines to expand in these areas — with the eventual aim of becoming a pan-industry hub for decentralized digital media across a variety of mediums.Â
Over the coming months and years, CEEK will look to ramp up the integration of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) across its ecosystem to provide artists and creators with a highly capable tool for content monetization, licensing, IP rights distribution, and fan engagements. It will also strive to establish itself as the market leader in mobile VR entertainment.
The platform is backed by an experienced team of skilled tech visionaries and entrepreneurs who truly believe in CEEK’s ability to transform the entertainment world. They aspire to create socio-economic balance by giving others the tools they need to create sustainable careers for themselves—with or without the help of labels.Â
“CEEK is giving control back to music artists by helping them directly monetize their fanbase and extend the reach of their concerts globally.  As more independent artists amass millions in fanbase, traditional label roles do not apply; CEEK is happy to play an instrumental role in this shift.” — CEEK Founder & CEO Mary Spio.Â
