Today we’re going to meet these seasoned investors, and take a look at the startups they’re investing in on the platform.
Jon Najarian started his career as a linebacker for the Chicago Bears. Today he’s a well known financial commentator, entrepreneur, and expert options trader. Jon co-founded tradeMONSTER, an online brokerage firm which Etrade bought for $750 million in 2016.
Jon joins the Republic community through a partnership with The Player’s Impact, a venture platform built to empower professional athletes looking to preserve and build wealth through premier private market investment opportunities. As you can see on his Republic profile, Jon has invested in two deals so far. The first is Zephyr Aerospace. Zephyr is building a new type of airline seat that gives passengers more space, and even allows them to lie down in economy seating. Here’s how Jon describes why he invested.
“I saw Zephyr on CNN and Meet the Drapers and thought that they could both create better revenue for air carriers and better flying experience for travelers. I intend to investigate further and expand my participation in the future.”
Bigger, more comfortable, and socially distanced airplane seats are especially relevant in a post-COVID-19 world. You can read more about Zephyr on its Republic deal page.
Jon also invested in Aera, which makes luxury shoes that are vegan-certified and sustainably-made. In his review, Jon says, “I love the design of the shoes and the fact that they are 110% sustainable.”
Welcome to the community Jon!
Kevin Harrington is a well-known entrepreneur and was one of the original Sharks on ABC’s hit show Shark Tank. He has helped build dozens of businesses, 20 of which have reached more than $100 million in sales.
Kevin specializes in consumer products, and it shows in three of the four companies he’s invested in so far on Republic.
First, Harrington invested in Kangaroo, a company that sells smart home security systems for a fair price. Kangaroo is backed by two leading venture capital firms, Greycroft and Lerer Hippeau.
He also invested in Elemeno Health, a Y Combinator-backed health tech startup. Elemeno makes microlearning safety solutions for hospitals. Here are Kevin’s thoughts on the deal.
“I invested because this is an extremely timely business model right now for the healthcare world. Also the fact that this is a Y Combinator company instantly made it more credible for me to make an investment decision.”
Kevin also backed Grapestars, a marketplace where celebrities can sell their wine and spirits. Here’s what Kevin had to say about the deal, “I invested in Grapestars because of the amazing story. Consumers buy into the trust factor with celebrities.”
Lastly, Kevin invested in Upshift, an innovative fractional car leasing service for low mileage drivers. Here’s what Kevin said about the deal, “There are other car sharing platforms out there, but this has a new and unique spin on it, one of which I believe could take over urban markets.”
Welcome to Republic, Kevin!
