Republic was created with the mission to democratize access to private investing. This mission involves bringing the public the best investment opportunities otherwise limited to a closed network of venture capitalists. Today we are excited to deliver on this vision and announce the sale of the Republic Note, our profit-sharing token that pays out when startups and private equities that raise with Republic get acquired or go public.Â
This is the first digital security of its kind that will allow both accredited and non-accredited investors to get exposure to the future of private investing. The Republic Note brings us one step closer to our mission to make venture capital accessible.
Private markets are essential vehicles for wealth creation, but most people, including 92.5% of the U.S., are locked out due to archaic and elitist rules. Regulatory burdens are also pushing companies to delay public offerings more than ever before. In fact, global private equity net asset value grew 7.5X since 2002, more than double the public markets in that time. The reason is simple: high growth starts early.
Republic started small by allowing anyone to invest as little as $10 into startups. Now more than 700,000 members and $100,000,000 later -- not to mention facilitating investment into companies like Robinhood and Relativity Space -- Republic is bigger, faster, and better than we ever imagined. Andreessen Horowitz, Union Square Ventures, Sequoia Capital, and dozens more of the best venture capital firms, family offices, and high-net-worth individuals have invested in Republic-supported companies. Republic recently expanded into new investing verticals as well with major acquisitions of gaming and real estate platforms.
The Republic Note, created by Republic Core, brings our vision to life. It’s a new kind of asset that shares profits when startups and private equities that raise with Republic later sell or go public. This means exposure to 100% of cash proceeds earned from companies that raise capital on Republic’s crowdfunding platform, and 25% any cash proceeds Republic’s private syndication arm realizes from carried interests. Republic will share profits to Republic Note holders each time earnings from these proceeds exceed $2 million. Each Republic Note represents a fractional profit distribution right to these proceeds.
