Facebook is turning to the Dark side! The time has come for secure, private and encrypted communications.
There has been much confusion around the technical term “Dark”. The term describes digital communication that cannot be monitored because of strong encryption. Dark applications use end-to-end encryption (E2E) are designed to protect data at rest and in transit and keep the end user's text messages, emails and video chats private and secure. “Going Dark” is a good thing…everything is safer in the Dark.
This week Facebook announced their intention to go Dark: “As I think about the future of the internet, I believe a privacy-focused communications platform will become even more important than today’s open platforms,” Zuckerberg writes.
We are at a historical global moment as people are waking up to the need for private communications to secure their digital identities. Lavabit is an early pioneer in dark communications and is uniquely positioned to capitalize on the upcoming dark wave with its Dark Internet Mail Environment (DIME) which can be used by providers like Facebook to support a common encrypted ecosystem for secure communications.
