Very recently, Facebook might have looked like it was "winning" social media. It has over 2 billion users. Its duopoly with Google grabbed about 75% of U.S. digital ad revenue last year. It's created ( limited) internet access for users who otherwise might not have connections at all. But it's never seen bigger challenges. Thanks to its attention-hacking algorithms, hesitations to moderate content, unchecked ad-buy procedures and data leaks that might have swung an election, the platform is under fire for creating a hellhole of fake news and wasted time.
