We Crashed into Cadavers (for science) and Passed!!
Indemnis participated in a comprehensive FAA study to calculate human injury caused by a failed drone.
Testing of the Inspire 2 (I2) was conducted on ATDs (crash test dummies) and Post Mortem Human Surrogates (aka cadavers) to evaluate the injury potential of an I2 descending with a deployed Indemnis Nexus Parachute.
Impact tests on both the crash dummies and cadavers resulted in a 0% probability of a severe head injury. A Phantom 3 weighing 2.7 lbs. falling from 200 ft. would strike a person with nearly 10 times the impact injury. Tests with the cadaver showed that the I2 at maximum horizontal flight speed with the Nexus system was nearly 5 times less harmful than the 1.6 lbs. Mavic Pro. In conclusion, the I2 under a Nexus Parachute represents a low risk to fatality due to the low impact speed created by the deceleration of the parachute and is safe to operate from nearly any altitude.
