Manta Biofuel completes 200-gallon pilot test with University of Maryland!
Hi everyone,
Today, we are excited to announce that Manta Biofuel has successfully completed a 200-gallon pilot test of our renewable heating oil blend!
Throughout the month of February, the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) used Manta’s algae-based oil to provide building heat on campus. This is a critical step towards proving our product’s viability as a drop-in replacement for fossil-based heating oil.
UMCES discussed the details of the test burn in a press release linked below:
As you may know, our company has a long history with UMCES-- not only did Manta CEO Ryan Powell earn his PhD here, it is also where he made the initial discovery that algae can be removed from water using magnetic nanoparticles. His goal back then, as it is now, was to reduce the cost of algae biofuels to enable their mass adoption, and fight the effects of anthropogenic climate change.
This test marks a key milestone in the journey towards solving that problem. By validating our product in a commercial-scale boiler on a college campus, we’ve shown that other colleges and universities can easily make the switch to Manta’s biofuel.
While this test is an important step for us, there is still much more work to do! Stay tuned for more updates as Manta moves into the 2021 production season.
As always, thank you for your support, and please feel free to reach out with any questions!
