Vickki Ayanna Jones, founder and CEO of Sankofa Village Community Garden, a master gardener and community leader was able to secure funding to make the project a reality! She discussed how growing healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, and plants has not only fed, but strengthened the community.
It’s a “teaching garden” so students tend to 23 raised beds daily, watering them, ridding them of pests, and weeding. Jones encourages the students to use home remedies and find organic solutions to bring up their crops, including growing in organic PittMoss soil!
The garden also hosts several programs throughout the week to ensure seniors and families have access to nutritious organic produce. The impact this garden has across generations is truly special. Keep up the great work!
